Going Solo in Japan 15 – Daisetsuzan ( 2002 ) Last Updated: February 1, 2024

Daisetsuzan National Park, also known as Taisetsuzan, is a large national park located in the central part of Hokkaido, Japan.

Our host in Sapporo Dr. Mori at Tokushukai Hospital was a very enthusiastic person. It made me feel that he seems to know that I like natural beauty and I am a wanderer. Every time he recommended new places for us to visit.

On our very first visit we had arrived on Saturday and on Sunday he took us to Sapporo Sculpture Garden located in Moerenuma Park in Sapporo.

The Sapporo Sculpture Garden within Moerenuma Park showcases several outdoor sculptures created by the renowned Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi. The park features open spaces, hills, and a variety of sculptures. Isamu Noguchi. His daughters were running all around and enjoying. We walked around looking at various sculptures that were spread all around. The park features open spaces, hills, and a variety of sculptures.

After that we went to his home. His French wife had cooked delicious vegetable meal. Before we depart Dr. Mori helped us to plan our outing for the next weekend.

He suggested we should go to Daisetsuzan National Park. It was going to be a two day outing and his wife immediately made booking for our stay a YMCA accommodation.

From Shin Sapporo we took a train to go to Sapporo station.

From here we took a train to Asahikawa. And a bus ride to reach YMCA accomodation. It took abbout 2 hours to reach there. Next day we went again by bus we reached Mount Asahidake, which is one of the prominent peaks in the park. Mount Asahidake, which is one of the prominent peaks in the park. We reached the peak of Mount Asahidake is by taking the Asahidake Ropeway or cable car.

On reaching the top we walked around using wooden paths and saw fumes coming out at many places.

Our stay at YMCA was very comfortable. At morning breakfast you meet lots of tourists and hikers. During lunch hour I was allowed to cook my Macroni lunch. The helper in dining area brought warm milk for us which was very thoughtful. Next morning we returned to our hotel in Shin Sapporo.

This is a memorable visit.
